Amazed… May 28, 2008

That’s what I am. Amazed at how kind people are. I get handwritten notes, phone calls, emails…from customers all the time just saying “thanks”. They even write posts on their blogs and link to my site. So darn nice. These days that doesn’t doesn’t seem that common most places you go…but Kat in the Hat customers are a special breed :) It’s what makes this business worthwhile. So thanks again from Kat in the Hat Designs to YOU!

A sweet handwritten note from Nichole:

An email from Erika:

Ok. My husband and I have taken FOREVER to choose a shirt, I know. You have so many awesome designs that it was so hard to choose! I think we have settled on one of your new patchwork tees. We like the multi-patterned name in a size 2T (short sleeves). The text should be “Audrey”. We like the I love you dot, preppy dot, beach blanket, pink multi, and I guess the superman dot. You can place it on whatever color t looks best — as long as it’s pretty! I guess pink or white are my preferences. Honestly — if those colors or patterns won’t look good together — then choose some other ones for us. I want it to look adorable and girly — and I just about went cross eyed trying to choose — it’s so hard to picture!

Whew!

I could have spent hours on your site, seriously — and between he and I we spent close to two, I think. You are so talented — I am excited to receive my shirt!

From Alison. She posted my site on her blog this week. Check out her photography…I think it is beautiful.

Hi Kathryn & Suzanne,
I just finished the first of about 5 blog posts from my daughter’s first birthday party. The theme/details post was the first one I published, and both Kat in the Hat and Garnish are featured in this post. Just wanted to give you the link and please feel free to swipe the photos for your own blogs, or I can send you some if you’d like!

Thanks so much for your help in making the party great!

And from Beeland in Charlotte. I received these photos yesterday. So cute:

Kathryn, hi! I hope you and your family survived Memorial Day weekend! I couldn’t wait to see my friend Kelle and her twins so that we could get our girls together wearing their cute t-shirts I ordered from you way back when. Anyway, they refused to pose together for one group picture, but I thought these were adorable and I wanted to send them to you. Thanks so much! Beeland

Unrelated, and last but certainly not least…something I should have said days ago…

WELCOME TO THE WORLD BABY JAKE!

Sarah, I will call you today…

lovely May 23, 2008

FINALLY I remembered to take my camera to Stinky Boys baseball game…of course that meant that I had to ask who won when it was over. Sassy Pants has reached the age, I’m afraid, where she would rather be silly, and smile big fake smiles, than pose for mommy, but I captured a couple of moments of cooperation. (These are really lo-res uploads so a little pixel-y and not nearly as vibrant as the real deal). It was the “magic hour” as they say so the light was really lovely…and, as her mom, I must say…so was she.

Change. May 21, 2008

I guess in one sense I hate change…like the fact that my two closest neighbors have signs in their front yards. That, I hate. My new job change? I stand somewhere in the middle…the change itself, great..the process, not so much but I am finally feeling settled. When it comes to decorating or hair styles…I’m all about some change. Hair grows, color comes in a bottle or a paint can. What prompted this post? All of the above. Mostly that our neighbors are leaving us. Our kids all play together and we spend summer nights by the firepit roasting marshmellows. We will miss them so much. My job…so much happier but still adjusting to the unpredicatable schedule. Hair? UGH. I got all of mine cut off and I REGRET IT, but again, it will grow

Oh! And I got a new Mac. Technological change is the WORST for someone like me….I don’t get it, don’t want to get it, and will never get it. That, in addition to a new blackberry that didn’t work right for the first month, and the fact that I lost my keys almost sent me over. But now all seem to be operating smoothly (knock on wood) and hopefully no more technology for me for a while.

An exciting change, my sweet friend Sarah will welcome baby Jake this morning! He is probably already here…and Sarah will be doing marketing and PR for Kat in the Hat. We’ll introduce her when the baby is napping :) She already helped us land a wonderful franchise gig and I will post some of the items from that project once they are completed. I have partnered with a company out of Atlanta who is doing some VERY EXCITING stuff. I am doing logos, illustration and more and will play a big role in the creation of their product line. I am loving it but having to learn how to keep it all straight in my head! When those products launch I’ll be sure to share.

The first issue of City View that I have stories in is out, another one goes to press this week and we are on to the next. It’s pretty fast-paced but I get to meet so many great people and see a bunch of pretty homes.

I know, I know, this is a BORING post. I just haven’t had time to write so I thought I should say SOMETHING. Maybe I’ll have pictures or something more interesting soon….school is out Thursday–YAY, so maybe life will simmer down for a minute or two. Happy hump day!

Happy Mother’s Day! May 11, 2008

To all of you moms out there (or soon to be moms). As for me, I have had such a lovely day. My sweet hubby made a wonderful steak dinner last night and fixed my all time favorite breakfast this morning…bagels and lox. YUM. My darling kiddos had sweet goodies for me and I went for an early morning run. I even got everybody to church with little complaint. Then hubby made my lunch TOO. Although that really isn’t that unusual. How lucky am I? And now my entire house is quiet as they are all OUTSIDE. Bliss.

These are just random pics..only of sassy pants. I couldn’t get monkey to stand still.

hippy chic…

And I’m posting this for my horse fanatics. It’s one one of the patchwork designs. Oh. And also offering tanks now too…not on site yet. Enjoy this gorgeous day moms!

My favorites… May 10, 2008

Hydrangeas and peonies are two favorite flowers by far. And we have a yard full of hydrangeas of which were decimated in last years freakishly late frost (shame on Jack Frost–he’s a mean son-of-a-gun). So I can hardly wait for the comeback this year. Although I have to hide in the bushes with a stun gun because people literally drive by from Lord only knows where and STEAL them! Can you get over this? Well, now I have peonies too! My gift for Mom’s day last year was a bush, or plant or whatever they are officially called and I guess my gift for this year is that they have BLOSSOMED! They are a little weighted down by last night’s rain, and I’m not sure this is the variety of peony I fell in love with…seems like those have more layers or something…but I wanted to capture these because the color is PINKALICIOUS. Now mind you, I do think that pictures of inanimate things are sort of boring, so please excuse…it’s not my intent to put you to sleep. Just go get another cup of joe and you should be good to go.

A Couple of Fresh Faces… May 9, 2008

for summer. Our original mermaid, mildred is quite charming but she was feeling overworked and has happily welcomed her new sisters…madeline and milicent! They’ll be on the site soon, but if you need a tee right away featuring one of their mugs, just shoot us an email!

This is madeline mermaid…

And this is Milicent…

I know, I’m a cornball. But designing is my faaaaaavorite part of this business and I get carried away. Why two new mermaids? Lots of folks already had our original design and the girlies were demanding a fresh take. Ha. They start young.

One of Those Days… May 4, 2008

We all have them, we all wish we didn’t. When I left HGTV I had to buy my own blackberry. I got a pearl. DO NOT get a pearl. It is a complete nightmare and I’m being nice. I have been back to the Verizon store at least 8 times and my email still didn’t function correctly. Then yesterday, out of nowhere, my voicemail password was “no longer valid” and I could not get in to hear the 9 messages I had acrued in oh, say 30 minutes, to save my life. So dear sweet hubby takes over, and… there! He fixed it. He fixed it all right. He deleted everything, and I do mean everything from my phone. Contacts, email accounts…you name it, he anilated it. People…what does Kathryn do when she gets stressed? Yes, she WIGS. So, In an impaired state, I drive to the Verizon store. Closed. All I want to do, is give them the awful, hell-sent, Pearl and never see it again. Can’t. Been too long. But I CAN lose HALF my money, and then spend a whole boatload more, for something else. Uh oh. Where’s your manual Ms. Gage? Ohhhh. Without it we can do nothing. Box has to have evvvverything in it. So, I take my half-asleep, UNFED child, and leave the store, cry all the way home, get the coffee-stained manual and head back. Exit the car, step in a big wad of gum. Kill me Now. PLEASE.

Anyway–after 4 hours–yes 4 hours at Verizon, I now have a working Blackberry and I think it’s doing what it’s supposed to be. I have 12 ka-gillion things that needed doing today and I can’t even bring myself to crack the stack. So I took pictures of my sleep and food deprived child. Yes, this does indicate that I am not functioning on all cylinders. Who, after a day like mine, tell me WHO, trys to make a 4 yr. old (with no nap or lunch) take pictures? Only someone as nutty as me.

Well, somehow we survived, and yes, things could be a whooooole lot worse. Now mom…please call me…I no longer have your number.

What is it about Friday’s? May 2, 2008

Ok. Dumb question. Anyway…sho is a purty one. And lookie! We have baby mascots! Well, at least I think we do. It doesn’t look like an egg anymore, and papa bird has been bringin’ home bacon like the hardworkin’ papa bird he is…altho hard to tell exactly through the little hole

Sassy Pants is all decked out in Kat in the Hat duds this morning so I seized the opportunity, although I fear we are reaching the end with the oblivious poses. She is all too aware and all too eager to make a ridiculous face.

Then I went and did something equally ridiculous in photoshop and
she looks like a UFO suspended in space.

Hey…not claiming to be an expert. Just fiddling.

Here are the actual tees from the designs I posted yesterday altho the pic didn’t turn out so well, did it? Maybe I need more coffee.

I claim no originality here. If you read the gossip rags (don’t lie) they sell ‘em in the back…team anniston, mrs. pitt…but old as I am, I actually know someone young enough to wear this that’s getting married. She had a shower yesterday and I have to say, she was tickled pink when she opened this. And I busted her fiance pulling it back out of the bag and smiling smugly….she was going to be HIS Mrs. Awwwwwwwww.

But I haven’t seen this yet, although surely they exist. All are available on the site under Adorable Tees/Adult Tees.

www.katinthehatdesigns.com

Ahhight…gotta get to it…a motley assortment of projects to tackle today…
invites, tees, logos, Spittin’ Images, meetings…but you know what? It’s Friiiiddddaaaay

and that makes me HAPPY.

New For Summer! May 1, 2008

A couple of new summer designs, by special request for Anna’s twin boys
(she has twin girls too! Can you fathom??) btw, I’ve changed names.

This one is called “goldfish” and I’ll get it to the site ASAP.

And this one…crazy as it sounds…is called “sailboat.” Wildly original name, huh?

Also, check out the knit separates link on the site…I have uploaded most of the info you need to order now (missing a few images, and a few styles) but I’m soclose. This stuff is CUTE folks.

My big news for the day…got a brand new honkin’ heat press. It’s fab! Gotta go put it to good use!
More soon…
